Metaleurop Nord will be ordered to close its Noyelles-Godault zinc and lead smelter as it is placed into liquidation on March 7 or 10 by the French courts, Metaleurop president Gilbert-Alain Ferrer told Hotline. "To be honest, this is probably the end of Metaleurop Nord," Ferrer said. The only possible chance of keeping the site open is to find a buyer for the business, but Ferrer admitted that this was virtually impossible. The closure will result in the redundancy of 800 employees who would leave the plant up to 15 days after the court's decision is made, Ferrer said. The plant, situated in northern France, produces 140,000 tpy of lead and 90,000 tpy of zinc.
