Comparative studies on high density lipoprotein cholesterol in the sera of different species of animals

Total cholesterol (TC), High density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) and TC/HDL-C ratio of 145 subjects belonging to 10 different species of animals, were estimated and compared with the values recorded by other investigators. TC/HDL-C ratio was the highest in the poultry and lowest in the cow. TC/HDL-C ratio in rabbits is more nearer to that in man and is thus considered as the best model for studies in atherosclerosis.
