Piroplamosis in cattle and dogs has been reported by various workers from different countries. Birkenheur et al, (1999) reported Babesia gibsoni infections in dogs from North Carolina. Its occurrence in India has also been found, although reported rarely in dog, Bajwa (1971). Babesia sp. are protozoal organisms that parasitize erymrocytes, causing varying degree of anaemia in the host depending on the severity of infection.
