Solvay S.A., the Belgian chemicals leader, is setting up a highly dispersible silica plant in Wloclawek, Poland, as well as expanding its facility in Qingdao, China, as it attempts to ramp up its global HDS production capacity by around 30%. Over $100 million is being invested in the Poland facility, which will produce about 85,000 metric tonnes of HDS annually. It is expected to be operational in less than two years, with an opening anticipated in the third quarter of 2014. Meanwhile, the expansion of the plant in China is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
