The Shanghai Institutes for Biological sciences (SIBS), a CAS research arm m biology, consists of the Institute Biochemistry and Cell Biology, the Institute of Neuroscience, the Institute of Materia Medica, the Institute of Physiology and Ecology, and the Institute for Nutritional Sciences. In response to the current trends of ST globalization and the interdisciplinary development of the life sciences, it deems international cooperation a major component of its effort to uplift the overall capacity of knowledge creation at SIBS. Focusing on their positions in the overall developmental strategy and in key frontier research areas, the research teams, labs and scientific centers under SIBS are mobilized to act as vehicles for this effort and to initiate various substantial research and development (RD) projects. In this way, a new system of international ST cooperation featuring high quality and rewarding benefits has been developed so that the effort becomes a powerful booster for the buildup of first-class research institutions in the world.
