Prevalence of important infectious diseases amongst livestock in kumaon hills

Livestock rearing is an important source of income and employment for the people of Kumaon hills. The animals reared in this region are stallfed and migratory in nature. Many obscure diseases occur in these animals and most often it becomes very difficult for the Veterinarians to approach and screen these animals due to rough climatic condition, lack of proper communication facilities and religious taboos. Although systematic surveys amongst livestock in sub-Himalayan region have not been undertaken, only sporadic cases of disease/ disease syndromes have been reported. This brief study was planned to investigate the prevalence of various diseases of livestock in the Kumaon region.
