Evaluation of the efficacy of selenium sulfide against canine seborrhea

Skin of dogs is frequently affected with seborrhea in which there is death and subsequent production of new skin cells at an accelerated rate. This condition makes the skill vulnerable to other microbial infection. Seborrhea is categorized as seborrhea sicca, seborrhea oleosa and seborrheic dermatitis, and it may be either primary or secondary. Several authors have reported the effectiveness of medicated shampoos and anti-fungal agents in treating seborrhea with varying success (Mason and Evans, 1991; McGrath and Murph, 1991; Durby et al., 1993; Bond et al., 1995). In the present study, an attempt was made to treat various cases of seborrhea by the application of Seledruff (selenium sulfide) shampoo.
