The leaf sheath K-Cl ratio was studied in 30 sugarcane genetic stocks during 4-7 months and correlated with the nutrient ratio, yield components, growth factors and yield of cane and sugar. Leaf sheath K/Cl ratio between clones, stages and their interactions was observed significantly at 0.1% level. The leaf sheath K/Cl ratio ranged from 0.99 in Co 7717 to 1.61 in CoA 7601. Co 7717, Co 6304, Co 7304, POJ 2878, Co 62101, Co 678, Co 617, Co 997, Co 775 and H 50-7209 recorded low leaf sheat K/Cl ratio, while high leaf sheath K/Cl ratio was observed in CoA 7601, CP 44101, Co 7704, Co 7204, Co 7712, Co 7201, Co 853, Co 62175 and CoJ 64. The leaf sheath K/Cl ratio increased with the age of the crop from 1.01 at 4 months to 1.15 at 5 months; 1.27 at 6 months to 1.42 at 7 months. Significant positive correlation of leaf sheath K/Cl ratio was observed with leaf blade K/Ca ratio, K/Mg ratio, K/S ratio and K/Cl ratio as well as leaf sheath K/S ratio, cations/anions ratio, cations-anions, and sucrose percentage in juice and commercial cane sugar percentage (CCS%) at 10 and 12 months, harvest index-sucrose percentage in juice at 10 and 12 months, harvest index-sugar yield at 10 months and harvest index-CCS% at 10 and 12 months. The association of leaf sheath K/Cl ratio was significant and negative with number of millable canes and cane yield at 10 and 12 months. However, the leaf sheath K/Cl ratio had no significant associations with leaf blade K/N ratio, K/P ratio, K/Ca ratio, K/Mg ratio, K/Na ratio, K/Si ratio, leaf sheath K/N ratio, K/P ratio, K/Ca ratio, K/Mg ratio, K/Na ratio, K/Si ratio, cane volume, density, height, thickness and weight, culm basic density, internode number, length, weight and volume, germination percentage, tiller sugar yield at 10 and 12 months, and with harvest index-cane yield at 10 and 12 months.
