ECONOMICS OF SUGARCANE CULTIVATION UNDER DIFFERENT PLANTING METHODS AND SEED RATES

The experiment was conducted during autumn season of 1999-2000 and 2000-2001, to study the effect of three planting techniques (Furrow method at 90 cm, paired method at 20:70 cm and ring method at90 x90 cm) and three levels ofseed rate (40000,60000 and 80000 three budded setts/ha) on cane yield and economics of sugarcane cultivation. Among these three planting techniques, paired method of planting gave significantly higher net income of Rs. 35362 (1999-2000) and Rs.51329 (2000-2001) than that of furrowand ring method of planting which accounted for 53.5 and 18.1% increase in the net income over furrow method of planting in the first and second year respectively. Significant increase in the net income was observed upto 200% of normal seed rate in thefirst year whereas in the second year it was marked only upto 150% of the normal seed rate.
