Two G6PD variants from the Indonesian island of Bali have been biochemically characterized. One variant, called Bali+, has normal activity and a fast electrophoretic migration rate. This variant occurs at a polymorphic frequency. The other variant, which has been called Tenganan, has low activity, low electrophoretic mobility, low Km G6P, and low heat stability and can utilize deamino NADP at twice the normal rate.
