ANTI-ANAPHYLACTIC AND MAST CELL STABILISING ACTIVITY OF ALBIZZIA LEBBECK (BENTH) SIRISH

Two fractions, F 079 and F 080 of hot acqueous extract of stem bark of A. lebbecl were evaluated- for their antiallergic and antianaphylactic activity using in vivo and insitre models. The fractions inhibited passive cutaneous anaphylaxis in rat, comparable to the standard drug disodium cromoglycate. Rat peritoneal mast cell degranulation induced by compound 48/80 as well as an antigen, egg albumin, were also inhibited by these fractions dose dependantly. The fractions could not protect animals fromhistamine induced bronchospasm, indicating the absence of a direct post synaptic histamiue receptor blocking activity. But in antigen induced convulsion, there was significant protecfion by these fractions, again dose dependantly. This paper deals with the anti-allergic and mist cell stabilising activity of Albizzia Itbbeck.
