HAEMATOLOGICAL PROFILE IN BUCKS OF SEMI-ARID SUB-TROPICAL ZONE OF INDIA

Haematological parameters are very useful for understanding the general health including the nutritional status of the farm animals (Rowlands et al., 1974). In Indian conditions work to establish normal haematological values has been rather less; although some work has been carried out by Vihan and Rai (1981) and Khan and Ludri (2001) yet they have studied some other aspects incorporating female goats in their study. It is well known that haematological values can be affected by cyclicity, pregnancy,lactation, sex (Mbassa and Poulsen, 1991; Mohy, et al.,1985 and Khan and Ludri, 2001), nutritional status (Biswas, et al., 1986) and growing stage of animal (Upadhyay and Rao, 1985 and Mbassa and Poulsen, 1991). Also, using adult bucks work.based on respective sampling is scanty. So present attempt was taken to establish haematological profile in bucks under uniform conditions of management so as to delineate the possible effects of nutrition, physiology and stage of growth.
