MONOCROTOPHOS : EMBRYOTOXICITY IN CHICKS

Poultry farming is a rriajor agro-industrial enterprise whose profits largely depend on the fertility and the hatchability of eggs that provide the parent stock for commercial layers and broilers. Spraying of pesticides in the farm premises and accidental feeding of grains with pesticide residues could cause deleterious effects (Pain et al., 2004). The present study was conducted to examine the potential embryo toxic and teratogenic effects of Monocrotophos (MCP), with particular emphasis on brain development at the residue concentration (Rao, 1988) ranging from 0.1 to 0.2 ppm in cereals especially rice grains and bran.
