HISTOMORPHOLOGICAL STUDY OF DERMIS OF JAFFARABADI BUFFALO

The skin ot ten adult buffaloes (Jaffarabadi) were collected from head, neck and leg region from the local slaughter house for biometric observation of dermis. The total thickness of skin ranged from 4290 μ to 4687 μ. Where as thickness of dermis was 4l02μ to 4432μ. The conical loops of collagen fibers were found in the papillary layer measuring 150(i to 204u In the reticular layer, sweat glands, hair follicles, sebaceous glands, aerrector pilli muscle, collagen fibers, elastic fibers and reticular fibers were present. Sub-cutaneous layer containing fat cells found only in neck and leg region measuring 20.5±5.55 μ, 56.5±1.83 μ in thickness. The thickness of dermis was found maximum in the neck region and minimum in leg region. Average depth,length and diameter of the sweat glands ranged from 200μ to 281μ, 49μ to 76μ and 12μ to 20μ respectively. Sebaceous glands were found in ciose association with hair follicles. The depth of the primary hair follicles ranged from 140 to 201 μ.
