TRIAL OF DIFFERENT ANALGESICS IN CANINE UNDER FIELD CONDITION

Pain is a distressing sensation arising from stimulation of specific organs in particular part of the body and perceived in the thalamus and cerebral cortex (Radostitis et al., 1994), Present study is related with the therapeutic trial of various analgesics commonly used and the selection of the analgesic, which is highly efficacious and less toxic too. A therapeutic trial was conducted in our clinics within the duration, of 1 year i.e. from Dec. 2001-Dec. 2002. For this, we selected 40 dogs of different breeds like German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, Dobermann, Boxer, Golden Retriever, Spitz and Mongrel breeds having the complaint of moderate to severe pain because of different etiologies like musculo-skeletal disorder, burns, dog biting, surgical wound, injury which is easily judged by their behavioural symptoms like licking of wound, lameness, shifting of weight from one leg to another, restlessness and anorexia, in some cases there was also rise in body temperature.
