Clinico-haematology of experimental hypomagnesaemia in buffalo-calves

The signs recorded in induced hypomagnesaemia were anorexia, polypnea, polydypsia and frequent defaecation. The animals showed constant movements marked erection and backward carriage of ears. They were alert, agitated, excited and became hypersensitive to external stimuli, slight salivation, diarrhoea, staggering gait and sunken eyeball were also evident. Opisthotonus, ataxia, stiffness, inability to get up and muscle tremors of the hind limbs were found. Hb and PCV showed significant increase (mean 11.73+-0.74 g percent and 35.25+-2.1 percent, respectively) after development of clinical signs.
