Role of batch size and selection criterion in progeny testing of Hariana bulls

Breeding worth of 98 Hariana bulls used in progeny testing programme for the last 30 years, were studied and classified into various groups of Relative Breeding Values (RBV). The probability of getting one meritorious bull/batch under batch size of 5bulls selected on dam's milk yield washout rightly rejected as it could provide no meritorious bull but the very size of 5 bulls/batch chosen out of the sons of meritorious bulls of previous batches, was found appropriate as it gave a cent per cent probability of getting one meritorious bull/batch.
