摘要

Ruminants are unique in that they are able to synthesize B vitamins, including thiamin in their rumen. Under normal condition of metabolism, microbial synthesis alone may not meet the total vitamin requirement of host and dietary sources therefore, may be essential (Ranjan, 1994). The role of thiamin as co-enzyme for decarboxylation of pyruvic acid to provide energy for the metabolic and neurophysiological activity is well known but its clinico-therapeutic aspect in ruminant medicine is in juvenilestate. Vitamin B complex and thiamin have been recommended for treatment of rumen acidosis (Joshi, 1973; Sinha, et al, 1986 and Kadvekar and Murkhibhavi, 1971) because of its inhibited action in the disease state ,however ,concluding evidence todate is lacking. The present work thus, planned to visualize the possible role of thiamin in relation to pathogenesis and therapy in rumen acidosis.
