SEASONAL VARIATION IN SEMINAL QUALITY AND HEMATOLOGICAL ATTRIBUTES IN BUFFALO (BUBALUS BUBALIS) BULLS

Seasonal variations in hemoglobin (Hb), packed cell volume (PGV) and seminal quality were studied in buffalo bulls. The values of hematologieal and seminal attributes during summer (May-June), rainy season (July-August), autumn (September-October), and winter (December-January) were as follows: Hb (g/100 ml): 15.26±0.86, 14.50±0.47, 14.14±0.48 and 12.73±0.66: PCV (%): 43.78±l.96, 42.48±1.65, 42.89±1.56 and 41.50±2.31; semen volume (ml): 4.10±0.62, 4.68±0.98, 4.74±1.05, 4.16±0.98; density(0-3 scale); 2.54±0.3, 3.56±0.1l, 2.4 ±0.16 and 2.14±0.14; initial motility % 72.1 ±1.72, 71.88±3.32, 65.75±4.61 and 74.38±2.57. The differ-ences in all the above values were statistically non-significant. It can be concluded that Hb and PCV values were lower during winter, semen volume was lower during summer and winter while initial motility was highest during winter and lowest during autumn.
