FACTORS AFFECTING SOME OF THE REPRODUCTIVE TRAITS OF NATIVE SOWS (SUS SCROFA DOMESTICUS)

Pig is one of the most efficient feed converting animal species. Among the domesticated livestock species pig is the only litter bearing animal having shorter generation interval and faster growth rate. Thus in given period of time multiplication andgrowth of pigs are quicker as compared to other meat producing livestock. Thus the present study was carried out to study the various genetic and non-genetic factors affecting age at first conception (A. F. C.), gestation period (G. P.) and age at firstfarrowing (A. F. F.) in native sows.
