摘要

This paper will focus on a few emerging state of the art analytical instrumentation techniques for the determination of the quality of the metal finishing process. For example there is an increasing need to assess surface roughness and pitting after the finishing step, or the assurance of a crack-free, ductile deposit that is uniformly spread over the base layer. The methods listed here may prove very useful for the determination of the composition and thickness of the coating layer as well as the type of contamination if present. In the long run a good understanding of these factors would help improve the appearance and longevity of the finish.
