CANE PRODUCTION MECHANIZATION - A SOLUTION FOR LABOUR PROBLEMS

Mechanization can bring many benefits to the sugar factories and cane growers. The profits margin of the cane grower increases significantly due to increase in cane yield and reduction in cost of cultivation of sugarcane. The mechanization of sugar cane will go a long way to ensure the viability and sustainability in sugar cane farming by the farmers. Mechanisation enables the sugar mills to stabilize their operations even under adverse conditions. Nowwewillseeareal urge among the farmers to adopt mechanization in the changing scenario. The farmers will come forward to plan their lands according to the requirements and adopt the wide row planting specially to avail the benefits of the mechanical harvester and intercropping. So, it is the high time for the sugar mills to encourage the farmers, encash the prevailing situation and to make sincere efforts for the promotion of mechanization programme among the farmers in various agricultural operations. Mechanization is widely in discussions for the last two decades, but its dire need is felt during the last three seasons because of shortage of labour due to implementation of NREGA scheme of Central Govt, in almost all the States. It is high time for the farmers to adopt wide-row spacing way of sugarcane plantation so that sugarcane harvesters can be used effectively and easily in these fields.
