Evaluation of sugarcane varieties suitable for autumn planting in the north eastern region of India.

An experiment was conducted from 2001/02 to 2003/04, at Buralikson, Assam, to identify sugarcane cultivars suitable for autumn planting in the northeastern region of India. Ten cultivars were evaluated, namely CoBln 9101, CoBln 9102, CoBln 9103, CoBln 9104, CoBln 9605, CoBln 02173, CoBln 94063, CoBln 90006, Co 740 and Co 961. Data were recorded for cane yield, commercial cane sugar (CCS) yield, germination, cane height, cane diameter, number of millable canes, sucrose, purity and CCS percentage. Four sugarcane cultivars (CoBln 94063, CoBln 02173, CoBln 90006 and CoBln 9605) were found promising for autumn planting, with CoBln 94063 recording the highest yield of 97.55 t/ha..
