EFFECT OF MADURAMICIN ON PERFORMANCE AND HAEMATOLOGICAL PARAMETERS IN BROILER CHICKEN

Ninety day-old commercial broiler chicken were obtained and divided into six groups to observe the haematological changes induced by maduramicin, a coccidiostat and to evaluate the efficacy of antioxidants to counteract the maduramiein toxicity. The birds in greup-II were dull and defecated white and greenish watery droppings and showed significant (P<0.05) reduction in body weight, feed consumption and haematological parameters (PCV, Hb and TEC) with significant (P<0.05) increase in FCR. These values in Groups-I, III and V remained normal Whereas the groups-IV and VI showed significant improvement in all the parameters. From this study it can be concluded that maduramicin @ 8 ppm induced toxieity in broiler chicken and inclusion of antioxidants ginseng and beta carotene to feed has beneficial effects in countering the oxidative damage induced by maduramicin.
