DOPAMINE STIMULATES STEROID HORMONE CONCENTRATION IN DOTMESTIC HEN

The stimulation of dopaminergic system which inhibits the prolactin level is poorly developed in White Leghorn birds for inreasing the egg production using a dopamine agonist (Bromoergocriptine). At 17th week 50 White Leghorn birds were administered dopamine agonist s/c at weekly intervals for 20 weeks, Another fifty birds as controls were given placebo in place of dopamine agonist. Prolactin levels remained lower in treated birds with concomitant increase in egg production by decreasing the pause days compared to control birds. Estradioi and progesterone levels were higher in treated birds. Influence of dopamine agonist in birds suggests an important role of this neurotransmitter on egg production in domestic hen.
