Prevalence and morphology of microsarcocysts of Sarcocystis obtained from naturally infected goats (Capra hircus) from western Madhya Pradesh

Out of 70 adult, non descript goats of either sex carcasses examined at Mhow (MP), 53 (75.71 percent) were found to carry the natural infection of Sarcocystis spp. in their tissues. Only microsarcocysts were encountered in the oesophagus (62.85 percent), diaphragm (51.42 percent), skeletal muscle (48.57 percent) and heart (35.71 percent). These were morphologically of three types : A : either long or small with tapering ends or with one end blunt, wall was thick (2-3 #mu#m) cross straited and measured 540-1040 X 48-190#mu#m. These were identified as S. capracanis. B: & C were elongate spindle shaped with tapering ends, wall was thin (about 1#mu#m) with or without hair like projections and measured 890-1315 X 150-220 #mu#m. These were identified asS. hircicanis.
