Field experiments were conducted with 10 prerelease early maturing sugarcane clones at Regional Agricultural research Station, Anakapalle, Andhra Pradesh, India, from 2006/07-2007/08 to identify suitable clones for late planted rainfed conditions. Among the 10 sugarcane clones under late planted (June planting) rainfed conditions, 97 A 85 (66.96 t/ha), 98 A 168 (73.41 t/ha), 99 A 3 (64.41 t/ha), 93 A 145 (57.50 t/ha) and 2000 A 226 (60.79 t/ha) recorded higher cane yield with more number of mutable canes and shoot population during formative phase. The clones 98 A 168 (41.33), 2000 A 226 (46.23), 99 A 3 (39.6), 97 A 85 (38.3) and 93 A 145 (37.7) registered higher SPAD values an indicator of drought tolerance compared to other clones tested and were on par with standard Co 6907 (35.7) which is under extensive cultivation in Andhra Pradesh. 98 A 168, 99 A 3, 97 A 85, 93 A 145 have recorded more leaf area and fibre percent of cane over standard Co 6907. Sucrose percent in juice was higher in 93 A 145, 98 A 168 and 2000 A 226 compared to other clones tested but were on par with standard Co 6907.
