A field experiment was conducted in Mysore, Karnataka, India, during January 2007 to study the effects of distillery spentwash on the nutrient contents of aubergine (Solanum melongena), cauliflower, cluster beans (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba), cucumber, giant chillies (Capsicum sp.), knol-khol (Brassica oleracea var. caulorapa) and lady's finger (Abelmoschus esculentus). Seeds were irrigated with water, or 33 and 50% distillery spentwash. The effects of distillery spentwash on proximate principles (moisture, protein, fat, fibre, carbohydrate, energy, calcium, phosphorous and iron), vitamins (carotene and vitamin c), mineral and trace elements (magnesium, sodium, potassium, copper, manganese, zinc, chromium and nickel) were investigated. The application of water, or 33 and 50% distillery spentwash resulted in the greatest nutrient uptake.
