Technology, investments, successes and failures affect the outlook for various recovered paper grades. As we approach a new decade in paper recycling, our recent experience will guide us. Even during a financially turbulent time in the paper industry, the rapid growth in paper recycling in the 1990s will continue, because recycling is inherently linked to the paper industry's future. We've learned that paper recycling can be not only environmentally preferable, but profitable as well. We also know we have a long way to go, especially in improving recycling technology used in the printing and writing (PW) paper segment.
