The uptake of kinetin-814C in the aquatic fern,Salvinia, was correlated with an inhibition of stem elongation and floating leaf expansion. The kinetin-inhibition depended on intact molecules of kinetin which are incorporated mostly in a supernatant fraction containing soluble non-polynucleotides andRNA. Recovery from inhibition occurred when kinetin was depleted from the medium. That portion of the plant which was produced after recovery did not contain significant levels of kinetin-814C.
