An Approximate Explicit Solution for the Local Torsion of an Elastic Layer*

A rigid disk adheres perfectly to the upper surface of an elastic layer fixed to an undeformable support. A rotation is applied to the disk around its axis. The resulting mixed boundary value problem is described by a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. Under the assumption that the ratio of layer thickness to disk radius is not exceedingly small, an approximate explicit solution of this problem is given.
