International safety and performance documents for backlight fluorescent lamps used in flat panel displays issued

Modern flat panel displays like televisions or computer monitors frequently use backlighting to enhance the quality of the image. To address this fairly recent innovation the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has published four new advisory documents covering the safety and performance of two types of lamps commonly employed in this role.
