E-Health: what are we talking about?

E -Health and personally controlled electronic health records (PCEHR) remain on the political agenda with the re-election of the Federal Labor government. But what exactly are we talking about when we talk about e-Health and PCEHR? E-Health, as denned by the National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) is 'the electronic collection, management, use, storage and sharing of healthcare information'. Certain aspects of e-Health such as imaging transfers have been used in Australia for over 15 years. We are now on the verge of taking e-Health a step further by introducing PCHERs.
