Body packer with opiate toxicity.

A comatose 45-year-old man presented to the emergency department with miosis and respiratory depression. The patient was managed according to current advanced life support guidelines. His plain abdominal radiograph showed multiple packets in the bowel. (Fig. 1) Body packers are individuals who ingest drugs of abuse (particularly cocaine, heroin and opium) wrapped in packets (cling film or filled in condoms or the fingers of rubber gloves) for the purpose of smuggling. As the packets tend to leak before they rupture, signs and symptoms related to a specific drug should be sought early in the evaluation to identify impending catastrophic effects
