There are differing views on what is a hidden curriculum in medical education; without being facetious, this might not be all that surprising given that what we are discussing is hidden (or taken for granted). To some it is an 'unofficial' curriculum that exists in conflict with the received curriculum for a medical school or college. My viewpoint, by contrast, is well described by the sociologists, Lempp and Seale: The hidden curriculum refers to the teaching that happens outside of the formal curriculum taking place in classrooms and lecture halls. Lessons from the hidden curriculum are taught implicitly, through role models, institutional leadership, peers, or during the course of practice.
