The Importance of Motion

The importance of motion after injury or surgery is increasingly appreciated. There are many advantages of motion, but injured tissues must also be given the chance to repair themselves, which may require limitations in motion. This article reviews the effects of motion, loading, and immobilization on different tissues. It looks at specific effects, their causes, and makes estimations of how much motion is appropriate.
