Saving the threatened endemic birds of southern ethiopia

Of the 17 or so endemic bird species of Ethiopia, none is as threatened as the Liben lark Heteromirafra sidamoensis. Located near Neghelle town, the Liben plains are part of the Southern Ethiopian Highlands Endemic Bird Area (EBA 114). The realisationthat the Liben lark might become the first known bird extinction on the African continent led to a series of events culminating in the initiation of a Birdfair-funded project at the end of 2010.
