Nigel Hudson and the Rarities Committee: This is the 53rd annual report of the British Birds Rarities Committee. With the Committee now well into its sixth decade, we are also approaching the 30th anniversary of Zeiss sponsorship (Brit. Birds 76: 475), a tremendous commitment that has enabled BBRC to provide an ever-improving annual report. The recently announced sponsorship from the RSPB (Brit. Birds 104: 348-349) has enhanced Zeiss's long-term support and is also greatly appreciated.
