The Mukondo Mountain copper and cobalt mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) could be producing in as little as four weeks following the joint venture agreement between Central African Mining and Exploration Co (Camec) and Prairie International. The companies' joint venture was announced last week and the mine now could be in operation by early next month, Prairie board member Bernard Swanepoel told MB. "It's a matter of weeks not months until we bring the mine back into production. From the final decision to proceed with bringing the mine back on stream to production, four to six weeks is quite realistic, it's quote doable," said Swanepoel, who was appointed as a senior consultant to the project in January (MB Jan 22). Swanepoel was formerly the ceo of Harmony Gold.
