The goal of knee rehabilitation is to reduce symptoms after injury or surgery and return the patient to normal activity. Knee rehabilitation programs are customized to meet the individual needs of the patient, yet focus on the patient as a whole, because return to activity promotes physical and emotional health. The formulation of the rehabilitation program takes many variables into consideration and progresses in a steady manner while employing multiple therapeutic modalities to obtain the best result. The purpose of this article is to review these modalities as they relate to rehabilitation of the knee.
