Delayed adverse reactions to iron polymaltose and iron sucrose.

Haines et al. in their article draw attention to the delayed complications that may arise with intravenous iron poly-maltose (IP) in the treatment of iron deficiency patients with inflammatory bowel disease. One point mentioned among their suggestions is that iron sucrose (IS) could be considered as an alternative because of its excellent safety record. However, I wish to point out that similar reactions can also occur with IS. Previously I had reported the use of IP in the treatment of iron deficiency in women with menorrhagic iron deficiency.
