Some new fungi associated with needle blight of conifers

A new phacidiaceous genus,Darkera, is erected to accommodate two species:D. abietissp. nov. onAbies balsamea(L.) Mill, andA.concolorLindl. amp; Gord., andD. parcasp. nov. onPicea glauca(Moench) Voss andP.abies(L.) Karst. Their presumptive conidial states,Tiarosporella abietissp. nov. andT. parca(Berk. amp; Br.) comb. nov., respectively, as well asT. pseudotsugasp. nov. onPseudotsuga meinziesii(Mirb.) Franco are also described. The relationship ofDarkerato other phacidiaceous genera is discussed, with special reference to ascus apices and their reaction to Melzer's reagent.
