I read with interest the article by Lawlor and Kerridge1 addressing some issues about organ donation practices in Australia. The authors make the very important observation that registration for organ donation either by The Australian Organ Donor Register or Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) in NSW bears no relationship to the actual level of organ donation in Australian society. This is reflected by an increase in registration numbers to over six million persons but no increase in organ donation over 20 years. The authors argue that a missing link here may be that just registering with no information programme delivered at the time is at the heart of the problem.
