Sustainability has become more important inthe bauxite and alumina industry. However,the relationship between sustainability criteriaand their applicability to the industry is notalways clear, and some seem to believe thatimplementing sustainability criteria negativelyaffects economics. Sustainability in the bauxite& alumina industry in more general terms,including reporting guidelines, sustainable developmentgoals, and corporate sustainabilitytargets, have been addressed in a paper presentedat the Light Metals TMS 2014 conference[1] which included Fig. 1 illustrating theGRI1 sustainability performance indicators ofa bauxite & alumina project.
