New, high-volume joining process expands use of aluminium in cars

Researchers in cooperation with US companieshave demonstrated a new processfor the expanded use of lightweight aluminiumin cars and trucks at the speed,scale, quality and consistency requiredby the auto industry. The process reducesproduction time and costs while yieldingstrong and lightweight parts, for exampledelivering a car door that is 62% lighterand 25% cheaper than that producedwith today's manufacturing methods.
