Magna International and Ford Motor haveunveiled a multi-material lightweight vehicle(MMLV) concept that uses advanced materialsolutions to achieve a nearly 25% weight reductioncompared to the current productionvehicle. The Magna-led R&D activity, in cooperationwith Ford, is co-funded by the USDepartment of Energy (DOE).The project includes engineering, prototypevehicle build and selected validation testingassociated with a new aluminium-intensivepassenger vehicle design architecture, facilitatingan extensive use of advanced lightweightand high-strength materials, resultingin environmental and fuel economy benefits.
