In China, aluminium is regarded as a materialof strategic importance for the nation’seconomic and social developments.As such, the development of China’saluminium industry as a whole, composedof both state-owned and privately ownedenterprises, has been collectively guided,coordinated, regulated and stimulated bythe Chinese government with respect tothe plan, strategy, policy and standards.(Note that such a central government rolebarely exists in the west.) Naturally, recentlyestablished and implemented governmentpolicies relevant to the aluminiumindustry have all embodied China’schanging economic growth model andits shift of focus onto structural reformsand the improvements of quality and efficiencyof China’s economy.
