FOR TWO DECADES, I have advised many engineers, both electrical and mechanical, that "it is always more effective and less expensive to deal with EMC at its source." A straightforward PCB shield may cost a few cents; but the further it is placed from the source of interference, the more difficult effective filtering becomes. Eventually, a once simple challenge could end up costing dollars rather than cents.
