Using multiple probes at the maximum points of radiation helps achieve 200 V/m within the test boundaries.A CHIEVING THE MIL-STD-461E MAN-dated 200 volts/meter within the 30-MHz to 200-MHz frequency spectrum in the presence of a ground plane can be quite difficult. A biconical antenna is generally used in this frequency spectrum, as shown in Figure 1. The maximum input power to this antenna is typically 2000 watts continuous. Achieving a 200-volt/meter test level would require the use of a 2000-watt amplifier in this frequency band when configured at 1 meter or less in front of the unit-under-test (UUT). Effective monitoring of the voltage from the transmit antenna would require the use of a broadband sensor with monitor such as the Amplifier Research FM 5004 Field Monitor, along with AR's FP 5000 Field Probe.
