Tony Ambrose, who died in the first few days of 2008, was an innovative rally co-driver and winner of both the 1965 European Rally Championship and RAC Rally of Great Britain in a Works Mini Cooper S with Rauno Aaltonen. On joining BMC, Tony was initially partnered with Peter Riley, with whom he developed the system of pacenotes for reading the road. This system is still in use today.
